Deep Inside…

“Everyone is a moon and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody” ~ Mark Twain

“I sometimes have a tendency to walk on the dark side” ~ J. K. Rowling.

There are many different sides to each one of us. Most of the time we only display that side of ours which we know is going to be loved by others…but what about the other side of our which is of equal significance…

As the night slowly spreads its wings,

Covering everything in its shadows,

Spreading with it a sense of mystery and uncertainty,

Slowly as all the brightness it swallows.

The dark seems apprehensive,

Unapproachable and strangely defensive.

Sending an eerie chill down the spine,

Of even the strongest of mankind.

Like the darkness that surrounds us at this time,

We all have certain traits that we are not proud of.

At times these are a source of our arrogance,

Other times making us humble in search of semblance.

Undeniable and unforgettable,

A hidden part of our core,

Sometimes a lesson and sometimes even more.

Hidden under the layers and layers of persona,

Coming out only when we feel safe with someone.

At times shunned away for coming out into the open,

At times embraced for finding the courage that comes with acceptance.

Locked away deep in our hearts,

Often viewed as our weakness,

Making one wonder will we be accepted with these,

Or will we have to learn to love loneliness.

For all the good qualities are often overshadowed by the undesirable ones,

Making it hard to decide if they should be disclosed or kept hidden.

Expectations…A Myth

“The best lesson I was given is that all of life teaches…especially if we have that expectation” ~ Sam Abell

It is hard to face disapppointment when we feel we have been let down especially by those who we hold dear…and what comes to mind is that expectations kill! But what exactly are expectations…

Time and again we are told this rant,

Through the many quotes and morning posts,

Through the unforgettable heartbreaks and tears so cold.

That expectations one should always avoid,

They lead to disappointment crushing our hopes causing them to die.

But a question that strikes the mind,

What are expectations and what brings them to life?

Is it the care and concern that someone shows,

Or the unbound feelings of attachment that unknowingly grows.

Is it the child who runs to his mother whenever he feels uneasy,

The blind faith that one has on their friends when they are needy.

Is it the feeling that rises when we meet a long lost friend unexpectedly,

The fleeting feelings of nervousness when a stranger offers us help making us feel queasy.

Is it the skip of that heartbeat when we receive an unexpected call from someone dear,

Or the realisation of a dream which was too unrealistic to be realized ever.

Is it the longing, the waiting to hear from the one you miss the most,

Or the burden of a heavy heart when there is so much to say but you can not find the right words.

Is it good or is it bad,

Should it be kept close or shunned away…too far.

No matter what people say and how much ever cautious we may get,

They find their way to our hearts denying all logic of its power.

Some say its a trap which makes us weaker,

What they forget is the feelings of bliss it accompanies as the wait is over.

So should we or should we not believe in the magic of expectation,

Or is too dreamy, far-fetched and just a creation of our imagination.

Complex Connections…

“Soul connections are not often found and are worth every bit of fight left in you to keep” ~ Shannon L. Alder

There are certain connections that seem unreal to us, that defy all logical sense and make us wonder about their charm, beauty and complexity…

Sometimes seemingly opposite unexpected ends attract,
The things we assume have no connection seem to form a pact.
Like the turbulence at sea which pushes the waves to the shore,
Helping it meet the far off land and wish for it more.
The sun and the moon like two opposite poles meeting during the eclipse,
Coming together to form a beautiful glow with their powers combined in a mix.
Like a candle coming to life with the aim to spread light with its glow,
However, the heat in turn melting it away until the wick is blown.
The red flames in need of a little air for it to sustain,
At the same time a strong blow of wind has the power to extinguish its dancing flame.
The secret magic of how water turns to ice and vice-versa,
With just a change in the temperature showcasing the true power of nature.
It is confusing how certain connections seem strange,
The element that brings it to life is the same which makes it hard for it to sustain.
They seem to have no common end or goal,
But when they come together it is nothing like before.
Like these elements in nature we humans too share such bonds,
That seem destructive to others which only that person understands and adores.
These connections are always hard to sustain,
For it demands a sacrifice often leaving one in vain.
But the emotions, the feelings and the love in these connections is so pure,
That no matter how complex they may seem,
And we may never know what will they result in or if there will be a result for sure,
But deep in our hearts we always do and we always will wish for them…and more.

Experiencing a Change…

“It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change” ~ Charles Darwin

Change is that inevitable part of our lives that has the power to shake us from our very core. Sometimes it is the situations we are in and sometimes it is the people we love and us. It is not easy to go through and not everybody can accept it. So what does it feel like experiencing this…

Be it a tiny change in a long thought out plan,

Or a life altering event that comes up and our attention it demands,

Change is something so confusing that it makes us wonder,

Perceived as beautiful yet threatening often making one quiver.

Creating feelings of restlessness in the hearts,

As one feels that it might bring him together or break him apart.

Imagined fear of what may come,

Preventing us to see what we may become.

Leading to soul-searching, identity questioning,

Dreading a probable change in everyone and everything.

Questioning the choices that it brings with itself,

Wondering if it will all be worth it.

The onset of change bringing with it an explosion of feelings,

Making one think of himself and his abilities.

The excitement of the new ebbing its way as we go deeper,

The tingling sensation in our hearts making us feel weaker.

Like a curious child prying from behind the curtains,

We seek to get a hint or a simple illumination.

Of what is it that will come next,

Will it make everything worse or better in context.

It creates apprehensions,

Begging for us to shed our so called pretensions.

Encouraging us to reach out to it,

To embrace the oncoming change from within.

For change is inevitable,

It is a part of the life we live.

An unexpected hidden blessing,

If one does not accept it then he must face defeat.

So no matter how challenging it may seem,

How much ever dreadful it may feel,

Accepting and living the change is the key,

To a happy life and with it success and glory.

Being A Girl…

The poem is dedicated to all girls and women around the world who are pressurized due to the various evils in our society to give up their dreams and wishes and yet they live with a happy smile and march on with courage and dignity.

“Feminism is not about making women stronger. Women are already strong. It is about changing the way the world perceives that strength.” ~ G.D. Anderson

She looked up wistfully at the pearly moon,

Wondering whether her life choices are a bane or a hidden boon.

Comparing in her mind the beauty of the moon and its dark shades,

To the charm of life and the many evils that she has faced.

The struggles, the conflicts in search of her identity,

The fights, the reunions solved with sanity.

Her hard work, her goals and failures that she met,

Moments that made her feel proud of herself.

The many roles that she played beautifully,

The dark alleys, crossroads and threats that she faced bravely.

Jeering of roadside loafers that made her feel uncomfortable,

Quickening of her pace to protect herself from being vulnerable.

Colleagues looking up to her at work for her ethics with admiration,

The unfriendly stares of unknown men peering into her soul as if in damnation.

Making herself and her parents proud with her achievements,

But walking the streets with a fear embedded in her heart,

To be aware of people with bad intentions.

Raising her voice in this two faced society which endorses modernisation,

Where her cry is muffled in the name of a girl’s limitation.

Questions often raised on her morals and upbringing,

Based on actions that were never her doing.

The society condemning and casting her away,

For trying to achieve her goals, her dreams in her own way.

Labelling her happiness on her relationship status,

Preventing her to reach for that inner peace of which she is desirous.

Despite these many hindrances and objections,

She marches on with no fear of perfections.

Keeping close the one’s she loves the most,

Aiming for goals with no fear of rejection.

Raising her head up high each day keeping her fear aside,

Looking up to the moon which is as beautiful as her,

But has its own dark side.

Little Realizations With Time…

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style” – Maya Angelou

They say life teaches us lessons with each hurdle each moment and each second. But the beauty lies in accepting these lessons and understanding their true essence…

A young one holding onto his mother so close,

Fearing that he may loose his path as the crowd slowly grows.

As the child grows older he gets distant from the mother with dreams to follow,

But his love for her only grows stronger with the morrow.

The sun and the moon have a strange connection,

When one comes up the other is lost from our vision.

Despite this awkward yet natural arrangement,

They maintain a balance a perfect synchronization.

When feelings of loneliness sweeps us away,

Making it hard to decide if we should leave or stay.

It is in moments like these that we gain clarity,

Who are our friends and who holds feelings of enmity.

Trust and faith go hand in hand,

The moment one leaves,

It is difficult for the other to take a stand.

It is hard to rebuild and regain,

Once lost it is difficult to sustain.

When we are hurt by someone close,

Due to expectations that we never spoke.

No matter how hard overcoming the pain may seem,

The strength lies in us as we learn to forgive.

There is always a doubt in the heart,

Of what is it that will cross our path.

They say life is full of surprises,

At times unravelling with it lessons that one learns with time and slowly realizes.

It is with these little things that I realized,

That learning is a part of life from which one can never run away or hide.

Tangled Knots…

“Mostly it is loss which teaches us about the worth of things” ~ Arthur Schopenhauer. Understanding the mystery behind attachment and detachment…

Attachment is often followed by detachment…creating a knotted mess which despite being tugged from all ends only tightens these uncomfortable knots even more.

Like the strong connection between the sun and the moon,

The calming effect on a baby as the mother croons.

The sound of the thunder after the lightening strikes,

Relief that spreads as one quenches his thirst and slowly revives.

There are mysterious connections like these that are hard to understand,

They are close to the heart and nothing can break their trance.

Their elements go hand in hand,

Creating a sense of attachment as strong as a silk strand.

They calm us give us a sense of security,

Their presence gives us strength and hope to face adversities.

Then what is it that causes a reversal to such feelings,

From complete attachment we reach a state of emotionless stirrings.

Is it the thought of hurting the one we love that draws us away,

Or is it the imaginary pain of supposed seperation which makes us push them away.

It feels like taking away a prized possession,

Making someone feel pain when all they offered to us was love and compassion.

Distance and detachment creates this void,

That no one addresses but sadly avoids.

Certain configurations are hard to figure out,

The more we dwell on them the more we seem to drown.

But everything seems to move in a cycle,

From young to old and life to death,

Everything completes its circle.

So does this mean that this too shall follow the same flow,

With the loved ones who we lost and let go.

Will one day we forget all that which led us apart,

Will one day we be the same as we were in the past…

Life Is For Giving…

“We make a living by what we get but we make a life by what we give” – Winston Churchill

The essence of giving is all around us all we have to do is look for it with an open heart…

On a dark cloudy night,

The beauty of the glowing moon,

The cool breeze under the shade of a nearby tree,

In the scorching heat of the glaring sun at noon.

The dry, parched and patient land,

Comes back to life, with a few droplets of rain,

All of them unknowingly being that helping hand,

That relieves someone in need of all their pain.

The colourful flowers and the buzzing bees,

Always share their charm and beauty,

The soulful song of the chirping birds,

A melody unknown, yet unconsciously spreading serenity.

The parents who stay up endless nights,

Dreaming of their child’s future ahead,

The child in turn crawling, walking, running, falling and stumbling,

Aiming to make his parents proud persistently marches ahead.

From the shaking leaf of a hanging branch,

That provides shelter to a snail walking on slippery grounds,

To the leading hand that guides an old man,

Across the street away from the pushing crowds.

The essence of mortal living,

And the beauty of sharing,

Is found all around us shining through many examples.

From old to young, from nature to man,

Everyone gives the most of what they can.

Be it less, be it more,

Be it quantity or in quality.

An act of kindness or a simple gesture like smiling,

Nothing is more priceless, nothing is more satisfying,

Than feeling the power that comes from within,

As one understands, that ultimately – “Life is for Giving”.

The Dilemma…

Sometimes the heart and the mind defy each other …in such conditions who should one listen to…

Should one follow what the heart says or let the brain contemplate….

Like an impulsive child,

Demanding the one thing that he has been denied.

The constant buzzing of the bees trying to reach a flower,

That seems hidden from their view but still has an attractive power.

The charming glow of the pearly moon,

That attracts many but does not last till noon.

The heart wishes silently,

There is a longing, a soulful yearning,

Which at times results in nothing.

But deep inside it all resides…

The wishes, the dreams that cannot be defied.

The mind on the other hand,

Is like that determined ant,

Which on losing his trail still marches on with faith.

Like that ruthless cold-hearted lion,

Sneaking and conniving to catch its prey,

Knowing that no matter how much cruel it maybe is necessary to keep hunger at bay.

The mind reasons it all,

Providing explanations and logical representations.

Putting on a facade and calling it factual realism.

The  scales tip from one end to the other,

Creating misleading delusions of grandeur.

Walking on a thin line of seperation,

Swinging between the two choices of opinions.

It seems like a hard choice to make,

Should one – follow the heart’s way or let the mind win the game.

The Year Gone By…

A poem expressing feelings close to my heart…

Losing loved ones is never easy…but at times it is necessary to let go than to hold on.

As I sit reminiscing the year gone by,

The memories of the past days flash before my eyes.

A smile plays on the lips as I relive,

Wondering what was and what is.

Misunderstandings creep in with words unsaid,

That eventually seep through the bonds which were once the dearest.

The smile the presence which at one time mattered the most,

Now feels like a hazy memory… slowly fading as time goes.

Climbing stairs of personal achievements working more and more,

Reasoning that time for the other does not exist anymore.

Slowly the differences become glaringly evident,

Similarities that existed once are no longer prominent.

Doubts, judgements and lack of trust creep in,

We try, but there no longer exists that close understanding.

It is strange how circumstances brought about these changes,

All that lies between us now is strange talks, silence and awkardness.

They say that time has the power to heal all scars,

Slowly with it this sombre state too shall pass.
Things today may not be like what they were in the past,

But, if one day we do cross each other’s path,

I hope that we can look beyond our struggles our differences,

And share a smile…which maybe meaningless but touches our hearts.
